With time and repetition, these packages of sensations were refined. Sometimes split into separate packages. Sometimes new packages were built.
But even as packages, it took too much consious effort to remember what each package was and how to respond. Did this package of sensations result in a good outcome or bad?
Thus a new coding system was developed. Packages were coded with feelings. Fight, Flight, Safe. This coded shorthand aided the appropriate response with minimal conscious effort.
Over time, these feelings grew in complexity and meaning. And it was the development of such a range of meanings encoded into emotional responses that gave rise to the first Sentient Beings.
