Conception, Pregnancy and Abortion are such complex issues,
and the situation a woman, couple may find themselves in are so vast,
There is no way to humanly create hard rules in such an area.
The following religious point of view is just meant as an aid that might help sort out some of it.
Egg and Sperm are just cells.
Anything can be done with them.
Thus there is no moral or etical problem with any method
of keeping them from joining.
Joining of Egg and Sperm in conception is the birth of new living tissue.
It has some value.
But no more value than the growth of a plantar wart on your foot.
It can be removed, carefully.
Thus keeping a zygote from implanting,
or removing it soon afterwards
is similar to the moral and ethical consideration
of removing a plantar wart.
The Embryo continues as living growing tissue until the heart
and other organs start working.
At that point the living tissue becomes a living being.
Not yet a human being.
Living beings do require more respect.
What are the moral and ethical guidelines for a close family pet?
The living being inside a woman deserves the same respect.
Pets may be put to sleep if conditions warrent it.
But it should be done humanily.
Ripping a living being apart is cruel and morally reprehenceable.
Soul work theology would pressure the medical community to develop
more human ways of ending a living being.
The situation changes at 'quickening'.
Quicking is the point where the living tissue is developed enough
that a soul can take up residence.
This is the point where the living being
becomes a quickened being.
This can be announced by the Baby's first kick. the one that says, "Hello, I'm here."
Once the soul has taken up residence, Abortion is a much more serious issue. But still a choice only the woman can make.
In general, Women should be supported. Their choices to carry or not should be respected not legislated. Aborting a Healthy late term pregnancy is a more serious matter than an early pregnancy.
