Each universe has a separate set of constants in the basic laws of physics.
Since each location has its own laws of physics, the content of each universe may not interact with another universe
Each uiverse is thethered to its anchor point within the multiverse. However there is some wiggle room. The universe may move around in the space of the greater multiverse. Thus it is possible for universes to bump against each other.
When universes bump, matter is not exchanged between the universes. But it is possible for this bump to have an affect on the distribution and movement of matter inside each universe. Matter can be pulled towards an approaching universe, and may rebound away from a contact point.
